10 Challenges Artists, Writers, and Other Creatives Know All Too Well

August 30, 2022

Most creatives I’m familiar with know these challenges all too well. Are you Neil Gaiman, Beyoncé, Banksy, Alex Guarnaschelli, or any other recognizable creative celebrity? I’m going to presume the answer is no (however, if yes, thanks for reading!) Unless you have reached a level of recognizable success as a creative – be it writer, painter, chef, singer, sculptor, woodworker, and so forth – you have many challenges and struggles. Before they were recognized as

How Does Calling Myself A Storyteller Differ from Being A Writer?

August 23, 2022

This is how I think being a storyteller differs from being a writer. Ten months ago, I got a part-time job working for an impressive and amazing entrepreneur. She has multiple business ventures, is a frequent guest on podcasts, webinars, and seminars – and I am pretty certain she never stops coming up with new ideas. And she calls herself a storyteller. When I started to experience just what that meant – it dawned on

Do We Learn More When We Read More?

August 16, 2022

Yes. We learn more when we read more – whether nonfiction or fiction. It never ceases to amaze me how many people do not read. Sure, many of those people will read some stuff online or in an occasional magazine. But books – fiction or nonfiction? No. As a writer – this is deeply disappointing. Like, for reals, someone is filming this shit, right? Sometimes, as a storyteller, it feels like the line between fact and fiction can get super blurry. Particularly when you have true, actual, factual experiences that read like total fiction. Along this line, I’m going to

Why not begin the first day of your writing career (or other creative pursuits) today?

Can Today Be the First Day of the Rest of Your Writing Career?

July 26, 2022

Keep this in mind when you debate if you should start a writing career and creating – or not. I’ve met a lot of would-be writers over the years. Numerous people who have said in one form or another, wow, I really want to write – or – I have this great idea for a story – or – I’d love to be a writer, but – or similar. Likewise, I’ve encountered this with other
